Where is ward 1?

City councillors in a ward system hold a dual role: they act as the direct link for residents to address local issues, while also serving as corporate directors for the municipality as a whole.

Ward 1 is unique in that it is Cambridge's most geographically expansive and diverse wards, stretching across multiple distinct communities. The ideal ward 1 councillor should be someone who is a good listener, builds positive working relationships across all neighborhoods and who can advance the needs of local residents as well as the broader City of Cambridge’s need to thrive.

But where exactly is Ward 1? Because I get asked this question a lot!

The ward includes the historic and picturesque community of Blair, the neighbourhood of Preston Heights, Lang’s Farm/Nantucket Village, the River Mill subdivision, and the Silverheights in Hespeler. It is also home to the City of Cambridge’s strong economic backbone, as it includes industrial zones and warehouses, major transportation routes such as the 401, and employment hubs tied to logistics and manufacturing.

Ward 1 is also home to 50 City of Cambridge parks and trails including the Sheave Tower and Blair Trail, the historic Riverside Park in Preston, the Hespeler Mill Pond and Silverheights Park, the Hunt Club national area, Studiman Park in Nantucket/Langs, Preston Height’s Ravine Park, Speed River Valley Lands, and the Chilligo Conservation Area. The Mill Run Trail along the Speed River connects North Hespeler and Riverside Park to one another. The rural areas that encompass Ward 1 are home to some wonderful farms and destinations, including TJ's Farm Fresh and the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory.
